Khelo-Hyderabad, a custom of StreetCause CBIT

StreetCause is an NGO which was started by 6 students in the year 2009. From being a small guild with a purpose of helping the destitute in any which way possible, it is now one of the largest NGOs in the city. StreetCause is an internationally renowned organisation with 37 divisions under its name. Each division works for social causes independently.

StreetCause CBIT is often regarded as the principal division of the organisation. With a strength of 150 members and still growing, they successfully organised a number of events that have impacted the society in a positive way.

Khelo-Hyderabad is one such event that is being organised by the students of CBIT. When asked what the ultimate aim of this fundraiser was, we were told it was going to be used for developing a remote area called Bheempur village located in Adilabad district.

At the end of each year, these students have the ultimate goal of adopting a village and staying there for a week. This ‘tradition’ has occurred previously In Mahalingapuram and Mukunoor villages.

What is the aim of Khelo-Hyderabad for 2018-2019?

“While we were searching for a village to adopt this year, we came to know about Bheempur from one of our volunteers who happens to be a native of that village. We were moved as we heard of the condition the village is in on the present day and felt a strong surge of compassion to serve the people of that village and bring a marked change in their lives. For this purpose, we need to raise funds in our treasury. That’s the reason why we came up with the idea of organizing a sports festival in the city”, said Abhinay Lingam, President of StreetCause-CBIT.

Khelo-Hyderabad is an event which consists of 7 sports and games namely cricket, football, volleyball, badminton, kabaddi, chess and carroms.

Each sport follows the knockout pattern. This is a 6-day fest with participants across Hyderabad city Winners from each sport will be awarded cash prizes and trophies along with a participation certificate. This is a 6-day festival starting from the 16th to 21st January with participants across Hyderabad. The expected number of participants for this year’s event is close to 3000.

Venues for the event are CBIT and Nizam college.

If a team is representing their institute/ college, all of the players from the team are expected to produce their institute/ college ID cards at the venue of the event.
