    So, there were a lot of things happened in the Mother Indian subcontinent in the year 2018. There were remarkable Supreme Court judgements, riots, significant achievements in sports, elections, political drama, spacecraft launches and also disasters . As today being the last day of the year 2018, let us look behind a little at some of the notable events from different categories.

    Important Events:

    1. January 1: The state of Telangana starts providing round-the-clock uninterrupted free power supply to 2.3 million agricultural consumers, becoming the first state in the country to do so.
    2. January 2: Finance minister Arun Jaitley informs the Parliament that crypto-currencies like Bitcoin are not legal tender in the country.
    3. January 6: A CBI court sentenced RJD chief Lalu Prasad Yadav to three and half year jail term, convicting 7 others in the fodder scam.
    4. January 6: 11 people are killed in an avalanche in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
    5. January 9: Supreme Court of India makes playing the National Anthem of India in movie halls not mandatory.
    6. January 12: Indian Space Research Organisation places 31 satellites in orbit through its launch vehicle Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle including a Cartosat-2 series satellite.
    7. January 20: India national blind cricket team claimed the 2018 Blind Cricket World Cup title by defeating Pakistan in the finals by 2 wickets.
    8. February 3: India national under-19 cricket team won the 2018 Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in New Zealand beating Australia in the Final.
    9. February 24: Vetran actress Sridevi passed away due to massive cardiac arrest in Dubai.                
    10. March 6: Indra Bahadur Rai, Indian novelist anliterary critic passed away at the age of 91.
    11. March 18: Indian national cricket team won the 2018 Nidahas Trophy beating Bangladesh in Final.
    12. April 2: Thousands of people belonging to SC/ST protested across India against an order of the Supreme Court on the Atrocities Act.
    13. April 6: Raj Kishore, the actor who played prominent roles in the films like Sholay and Padosan passed away due to cardiac arrest at the age of 85.
    14. April 12: Naseem Mirza Changezi, Indian Independence Activist passed away at the age of 108.   
    15. May 27: Chennai Super Kings won the 2018 Indian Premier League beating Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Final.
    16. June 14: Afghanistan national cricket team played its first International Test Match against India in Bengaluru.
    17. June 20: Indian government report warns that 21 cities groundwater will run out by a year 2020.
    18. August 7: Proficient politician of Tamil Nadu, M.Karunanithi passes away at the age of 94.
    19. August 10-20: Severe flood hits the state of Kerala. It was the worst flood to hit the state in the century.
    20. August 16: Former Prime Minister of India, Atal Bihari Vajpayee died at the age of 93.                              
    21. September 4: Majerhat Bridge of Kolkata collapsed claiming the lives of 3 people.
    22. September 16: PSLV-C42 was launched by ISRO. PSLV-C42 successfully carried and deployed 2 earth observation satellites. 
    23. October 10: Five people died and 30 were injured when a passenger train derailed in the north Indian state of Uttar Pradesh.
    24. October 19: Two Indian Railways passenger trains crashed into a crowd of people in the eastern outskirts of Amritsar who had gathered around to watch Dussehra celebrations, killing 59 people.
    25. November 28: India hosted the 2018 Men’s Hockey World Cup at Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneshwar.
    26. November 29: Hyperspectral Imaging Satellite was launched by PSLV-C43, which helps imaging agriculture, forestry and the observation of coastal and inland waterways.
    27. December 1: G-20 summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a trilateral meeting with Russia’s Vladimir Putin and China’s Xi Jinping. 
    28. December 5: India’s heaviest communication satellite GSAT-11 was launched.
    29. December 7: Elections were held in the states of Telangana and Rajasthan.
    30. December 13: After the resignation of RBI Governor, Urjit Patel, Saktikanat Das was appointed as the the 25th Governor of RBI. 
    31. December 28: Triple Talaq bill was passed in the Lok Sabha; awaits a nod from Rajya Sabha.
